Converged and Multiservice Transport Solutions

Corrigent's product lines offer a packet-optimized transport solution. They were designed to efficiently provide converged transport of data and TDM services, and to combine the benefits of traditional transport technologies and Ethernet equipment into an integrated converged platform.

Corrigent’s products enable network and service convergence and provide a smooth migration path towards a packet-centric network architecture. Corrigent's Ethernet transport technology provides a viable cost-reduction strategy for large service providers looking to reduce operational costs associated with existing services, and to efficiently implement new revenue-generating data services. In contrast with alternative TDM and Ethernet approaches, where scalability and reliability are a concern, Corrigent’s products guarantee service performance, maintaining high levels of reliability and availability at all times. High scalability for Ethernet services is also guaranteed, and support for TDM services consistent with the present mode of operation (PMO) is provided.

Convergance Solutions Corrigent

A key economic benefit of Corrigent's products is the ability to enable horizontal integration and vertical convergence of network infrastructure and operational support systems. Horizontal integration, which refers to the ability to interoperate with existing TDM and packet networks, including IP networks, enables an integrated and simplified end-to-end service provisioning and path management model for the delivery of both TDM and data services across multiple networks.

Corrigent's Ethernet transport technology and its open management system were designed to minimize the necessary investment for integrating multiple networks and network technologies under a single management system, which results in a dramatic reduction in OPEX, provisioning cycles and inventory costs associated with these services.
Vertical convergence is enabled by consolidating multiple technology layers into a single L2 packet-efficient transport network element. Corrigent’s Carrier Ethernet Transport technology relies on IP (Layer-3) awareness, native Layer-2 transport and reliable Layer-1 transmission, for the efficient delivery of IP and TDM services over a single converged packet-optimized infrastructure. This results in a reduction in both CAPEX and differential cost increase over time, maximizing the return on investment.

Benefits for Operator

Corrigent's product lines enable operators to effectively consolidate their network infrastructure into a single, manageable and simplified network architecture, and provide the first step towards full network consolidation, with minimal initial investment. Operators can create a scalable end-to-end network, aligning investment, ensuring bandwidth growth and minimizing incremental costs and service disruption.

Corrigent offers operators the advantage of converged infrastructure for both TDM and data services, and the ability to connect to multiple networks and equipment types, including edge routers, TDM devices, Ethernet switches and directly to core routing elements. Interconnection among these elements and networks is achieved through a wide range of Ethernet and TDM interfaces, effectively reducing by at least a factor of three the cost associated with interconnecting the transport and packet networks over TDM-enabled data interfaces such as Packet over SDH (POS).

These benefits can be extended towards both the access and the core networks, as Corrigent’s products enable the interworking of TDM and Ethernet technology, therefore minimizing cost and service disruption during the migration towards a converged transport network with Ethernet access interfaces.

Corrigent offers operators future-proof network architecture based on generally-available Ethernet transport technology, providing enhanced scalability and flexibility to introduce new services onto the converged network infrastructure, minimizing initial investment and extending the network amortization period. Corrigent’s converged network also ensures a reduction in operational costs as well as minimal service disruption, with guaranteed performance and service availability as well as optimal network utilization.

Fixed and Mobile Convergence

Mobile service providers worldwide currently face the challenge of migrating towards 3G and 3.5G wireless technology. Competitive pressure adds to this challenge forcing operators to rethink their strategy for migration from 2G GSM services, resulting in a near-term spending increase to accelerate the introduction of 3G technologies. This however, needs to be balanced off with a longer-term spending reduction strategy in order to reduce pressure on operating margins and guarantee profitability.

Various operators have responded to this challenge by announcing they will begin offering 3G Mobile Broadband with HSDPA, LTE and mobile WiMAX. These technologies offer broadband wireless access to data services over the cell phone at rates comparable to that of other broadband access technologies, such as DSL, imposing further bandwidth and performance requirements on the transport network currently used to backhaul existing 2G services.

Corrigent's products offer a converged Ethernet transport solution for these new wireless access technologies. They also support backhauling of current wireless technologies, e.g., 2G GSM, CDMA and UMTS. Corrigent’s product lines provide a wide range of TDM and Ethernet interfaces to aggregate wireless traffic from wireless towers operating in different technologies. Compared to alternative solutions, Corrigent provides the most scalable solution for backhauling wireless traffic over the same converged Ethernet transport network. It provides a future-proof technology enabling a migration path from TDM and ATM to Ethernet, with a reduced cost structure comparable to that of Ethernet switches, but offering the reliability and availability associated with transport equipment.
