Selective Wrap Independent Steer (SWIS) as RPR's Protection Scheme
This note describes one of Corrigent's contributions to the IEEE 802.17 standard. SWIS is part of the RPR protocol contained in the Operations, Administration and Maintenance portion of the standard and provides for both steering and wrapping of packets in the event of a ring fault.

MPLS integration into the transport network is receiving increasing interest and this note provides insight into how the IETF-defined pseudo-wire scheme can be integrated in to next-generation transport networks and also the architectural elements required when pseudo-wires are integrated into a circuit-switched transport network.
