Packet transport represents the evolution of conventional transport equipment and state-of-the-art carrier Ethernet switches. It combines the strengths and benefits of both to offer the most advanced general-purpose, multiservice transport solution in the industry. Corrigent's family of packet transport products, which includes the CM-100 and the CM-21, offers service providers a packet-efficient transport solution for any mix of data and TDM services, providing a cost-effective end-to-end solution for the access and metro transport networks.
Packet transport emerged in recent years following a shift in traffic profiles in favor of data services. Telecommunications networks, originally designed to provide TDM services such as voice and private line, were being overwhelmed by increasing amounts of data traffic. Initially, this resulted in an increase of the number of TDM interfaces, although in the majority of the cases, these would carry data traffic for, e.g., Internet access or VPN access services, and therefore referred to as packet over TDM (POT) interfaces. Ethernet was introduced into the transport network as a more efficient packet interface and, together with packet over TDM interfaces, became the dominant interface type. This trend will continue and will eventually result in Ethernet and packet over TDM interfaces replacing TDM entirely.
Corrigent's packet transport line of products is today the only field-proven packet transport solution in the industry. It has been widely deployed worldwide and is currently the foundation of one of the largest quadruple play network (voice, data, video and 3G wireless) in the world. It offers a future-proof network architecture designed to enable network and service convergence, minimizing initial investment, extending the network amortization period and reducing the overall costs of operating a multiservice network.
Corrigent's packet transport family includes the CM-100 and the CM-21 product lines. The CM-100 provides efficient metro aggregation of data and TDM services over a converged metro transport infrastructure, whereas the CM-21 provides the access component in Corrigent's end-to-end packet transport solution. Specifically, the CM-21 can be subtended from the CM-100 gigabit Ethernet UIM, and provides a high-density access solution for aggregating Ethernet traffic from business and residential customers, enabling applications such as Triple Play and carrier Ethernet services.
